You may have noticed that I typically shoot bands, and for me that usually means tattooed metal dudes. This was a nice change of pace, and something that I’d like to do a lot more of in the future! I shot Acacia on the Ventura, CA date of Warped Tour. Beautiful beaches, perfect weather, perfect setting for this shoot. For those of you who don’t know Acacia has an impressive online following with over 2 million on Instagram alone.
We were both really excited for the shoot, but as usual had a limited amount of time. This meant that I needed to use one location that was versatile enough to get a few different shots. We found this awesome mound of boulders in the sand on the beach. They had vibrant green plants of some sort growing on top, and we were shooting close to sunset. This gave us a lot of great colors in the photos that worked really well together.
I also had my good friend Vince Dwyer helping as my assistant manning the light. He’s a badass music photographer who tours with The Word Alive. Aka badass group of good dudes. When you’re run and gun like this it helps tremendously to have someone that can hold the light for you, and reposition it as you need it. Thanks Vince!
